Bosques de mi Mente’s Reviews
Simply amazing
One of the best sound libraries of Piano Book. The sound of a vintage Casio is beautifully recreated here. You can play a lot with all the settings like you would with a 60's Casio. Tweaking the reverb, vibrato, echo, and the synth wave options, the possibilities for LoFi, glitch, electronic, IDM, and ambient music are endless!
CongratsAmazingly realistic and great controls concept
Realism is one of the most important things for me when choosing libraries and sounds for my compositions, and that realism is usually stripped out of the instruments in the "cleaning" and "polishing" phase. Most commercial solo string libraries out there have to sacrifice sound and realism for "cleanliness" and a sound that is predecible, reliable and... well, boring. This viola is different. The sound is imperfect, yes, but also beautiful, powerful, and extremely inspiring.
You can hear this instrument featured in this minimalist symphony I composed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSqVd-mZjo8
I would also like to congratulate Cordaro for the groundbreaking concept of tying the expression control to the overall "dynamic and vibrato" of the instrument. So if you take it all the way down, you hear the bow scratching the surface of the strings gently, creating a very atmospheric sound. Then you go into a soft and non-vibrato sound, and then all the way up to a roaring, full of vibrato sound. It's so easy to control the musicality with this instrument (as opposed to having to control three controls: expression, dynamics and vibrato) that it instantly inspires you to write and helps you focus on the emotion of the piece.
If some of the imperfections (not all, just the transitions between the lower and mid dynamic layers) where polished, and a violin and cello versions were recorded with the same philosophy, this would be a solid product, different from many solo string libraries out there. I would pay for it for sure.
One of the best piano sounds I've ever heard
This piano is simply amazing. I used to own a real Yamaha U3. After being forced to stop playing for a long time, I was able to play again with a SL88 Grand MIDI piano. The problem was: finding a piano that would not only sound realistic, but also inspiring, with character (unless most piano libraries out there that offer very "clean" and "clinical" piano sounds). I compose and play mostly minimalist and soundtrack/film score music, so the character, the quality of sound, and the beauty of every note is essential, like Arvo Pärt said, it has to be enough when one note is played beautifully.
I have bought and tried all kinds of digital pianos: The Grandeur, The Maverick, The Gentleman, Alicia Keys, Vienna Grand, The Noire, many Spitfire pianos, etc. With the exception of HammerSmith Pro (after carefully curating the sound), none of them come even close to this piano. If you close your eyes, you can feel you are playing a real Yamaha S6. It's THAT good, and you are automatically inspired just by playing a few notes.
The dynamic layers are enough to give a quite realistic and satisfying experience, and the piano has an amazing tone. The interface is also very nice and easy to use, quite intuitive.
There is only one caveat though, the decay of the notes abruptly stops after 10-15 seconds depending on the note, which may be a deal breaker for some. Apparently this was due to limitations of recording in a noisy environment. It is a shame, as this piano could easily surpasses most commercial pianos I've tried. If that was fixed (to a longer natural decay), this piano will qualify to be a successful commercial product. Congrats Mark.
Amazing sound, issue with pedal keys release sound
This piano sounds really beautiful, it is perfect for soundtracks/music score and for minimalist music. The hammers release issue was a deal breaker for me, and I could not make it work, until I contacted Filipe and he kindly showed me how to bypass that issue.
Now, this piano has found its place in most of my Logic templates, and rightly so. It's beautiful sound and versatility surpasses many commercial pianos I've tried, and it would be fair to say that it stands up there with many Spitfire pianos I own such as Felt, Cinematic Soft, Intimate grand, or Firewood piano.
Having separate controls for Felt, Plucked, etc gives you unlimited possibilities to make it sound exactly how you want, and the dynamic range is more than enough for cinematic/soundtrack music.
Thank you for this beautiful piano.
