Nick’s Reviews
An Old Favourite
You either love or hate the RMI - personally I've always loved it to bits - I've owned two over the years. It has a character all of its own - I call it the 'Crinoline Piano' because for some reason it gives off a Victorian vibe to me, especially when the Harpsi stops are engaged. This sample set sounds more like the Piano/Harpsi pp registration, rather than Piano/Harpsi - but no matter, it captures the tone nicely, and it makes a refreshing change to hear the full length of the (albeit short) decay. Some sampled RMIs I've come across seem to cut it short - as if it wasn't short enough already!
If you do expand on this sample set, please do think about sampling various registrations in Organ Mode, which to my mind is the RMI's crowning glory. One of my all-time favourite sounds is Piano/Harpsi pp in Organ Mode running through a gently overdriven Leslie - pure heaven. If you don't have a handy Leslie I can heartily recommend GG Audio's Spin plugin. (No, they didn't pay me to say that!)
