BarrysGarage
Born in Durban, South Africa, 1962. Went to Durban North Primary School, Beachwood Boys High School and the University of Natal, Durban campus. I have been messing around with music since I was very young. I have only had about a total of 18 months of piano lessons (syncopation) and the rest is self-taught. My strength is improvisation and I compose through improvisations. My early recorded material is all improvised, often single-take improvs, since I had no clue how to edit in my ancient DAW, when I was recording in my garage. I was in a band called Vital Signs (in Pietermaritzburg, late 1980s, early 1990s) and played solo or in small groups at the Folk and Contemporary Music Association (FACMA) gigs. I recorded some keyboard parts on 3 of the songs on the late great Richard Walne's CD, with his band, Point Sirens, around the same time. I haven't played live, or with any group, since this time. However, I have been improvising, composing and recording ever since then. I believe that I've made slow, but steady progress with my playing and in my use of recording technology, over this very long period. Since retirement, I have started posting my recordings online and hope to continue to do so indefinitely. I am not actively trying to join a band, or to collaborate with other musicians, but I remain open to trying it again.
Hope some of you can gain something useful and/or enjoyable from these tracks.
