The story
Knowing my love for instruments of all kinds, a person who was once close to me gave me this steel tongue drum as a present long time ago. It is a very simple steel tongue drum and is actually meant for kids. For a while I haven’t found any use for it on any of my projects, and it was just gathering dust on a shelf among the other things that are still waiting for their day to shine.
Recently, I got Covid. Being trapped in four walls I started feeling bored and decided to take a break from constant composing and do something that I haven’t done before. Sampling has always been of interest to me, but I never really got around to actually learn how to do it. I knew it was time for my first sample library.
I took my old steel tongue drum and, armed with a multitude of YouTube videos, started recording. I am a big fan of mangling high-pitched percussive instruments, there is always some mystical sound that comes out of it. So, that is exactly what I did on “Steel Tongue Transmissions” – this instrument is a hybrid of two traditional articulations (open and muted with my hand on the drum to get that clear tone) and textures made out of the same notes.
This library means a lot to me, as I think it is the beginning of a new beautiful journey into sampling. I am planning to make an extended version of this library soon after its release on Pianobook, it will be available on my own page. But for now, enjoy and let me know what you think, any feedback is highly appreciated 🙂

Cool!! This great sound! Thank!!! Beautiful Steel Tongue Transmissions!
Great Sound
Every now and again you stumble upon something that looks kind of average but creates exceptionsal sounds. This is one of them! Highly recommended.
Two beautiful mallet with extras!
This is a very simple and relatively small instrument that features two different tongue drum articulations, regular and muted, and each one features a different texture as an extra layer that can greatly enhance the sound and bring some sparks of inspiration. Both patches come in just one octave, but they are resonsive, dynamic and crystal clear in terms of quality.
A great little instrument by Nikita!
