The story
It’s too easy for electronic music to feel lifeless if it’s 100% digital. I love digging through old cassette tapes of home recordings to find vocal snippets of family members to use in my music and this instrument is based on just two short samples of my grandparents Teddy and Betty singing the word ‘You’. The original recording was a letter-on-tape that Teddy was making for his mum, my great-grandmother, for her birthday. The tape started with Teddy and Betty singing happy birthday to “Mother” on their brand new tape recorder. I believe this tape was made in 1978.
I’ve added a few controls for filtering, distortion and reverb so different atmospheres can be achieved. I hope my grandparents would find this sample pack fun. Teddy certainly loved music so I think he would enjoy it. I have fond memories of him showing me his brand new Yamaha keyboard in the early 90s.
