The story

My Name is Les Cook from Maidstone in Kent England

This is my second Decent Sampler instrument,

I hope some of you can use it and I would love to see and hear the results.

The Physical instrument is one I built for a music project I was running called
“Music from Things”
www.musicfromthings.uk

This instrument was created to show how plastic rubbish can be turned in to music using recycled materials.
The 8 bottles are 2L Coke bottles the caps are drilled and a car tyre air valve is fitted. The bottles can then be inflated with a bicycle pump to tune them.

This is the second version if the instrument as at first, I tried 2l plastic mineral water bottles, they worked ok, but a friend gave me a plastic bottle with no labels and the cap also had no markings that he brought back from Holland. This bottle had a much longer sustain and a better tone.

It took some time before I realised this special bottle was in fact a Coke bottle, so a second instrument was built.

The instrument is played using simple beaters.

This instrument was used in many interactive displays and instrument building workshops around Maidstone over the last year.

At the end of this project this instrument was re homed in a special needs school.

It was recorded using 2 Rode M3 microphones and a Zoom F3 recorder.
Sample editing and tuning was all done in Reaper.
Coding of the Decent sampler instrument was done with Sublime text.

Thank you for having a look and I look forward to any constructive comments.

Best wishes
