The story
The world has been through a lot. Being unexpectedly confined for so long has been tough and all we can do is find some good and lightness through these weird times. I decided to experiment with the notion a remote recording by requesting the musician, an amazing violinist in this case, to record the samples for this instrument herself and using only her phone.
This string instrument is cozy, screechy and oddly intimate. It features four different sliders and two knobs, all CC assignable, that control the direct audio (recorded by a regular iPhone), two “interference” signals and a reverb created by a less than ideal reverb pedal!
Depending on where the Remote Violin nano will sit in your mix, the high end can be harsh at times, nothing that a low pass filter cannot fix. However, if you are after a more lo-fi feel, you can let the instrument’s natural top end shine through.

PERFECT - but on low volume!
This is a really magnificent instrument and very well designed in all aspects - BUT - it suffers from 2 issues. The first is that everything is very loud, and sometimes this results in cracks and clips even though the volume indication is in a safe spot. The second is that every now and then you will notice some very obvious noices from the recording, and there is no way to control that. If those are fixed, this should be a flipping premium instrument. Please please please update it please please!
Warm, slow tremolo like string library
This is really a beautiful library! The sound is very intimate and tender. So nice to have!
A very odd instrument
Reminiscent of that strange Nordic bowed instrument made famous by Howard Shore's The Two Towers Rohan theme... can't remember the name of it. When the modulation and sends to the built in distortions were messed with I was able to get some very interesting and harsh sounds that just fit the bill for what I was working on. Don't expect a "nice" instrument here. It's rough and ready and just right for adding that je ne sais quoi you might have been looking for.
Beautiful Midrange, Honky top end
This violin has a kind of thin and hollow sound. I think this makes it sound really beautiful played softly in the mid range. However in the high end it gets way too piercing and honky for me. Theres alot of weird artifacts from the instrument here which gives this alot of character and realism. As alex mentioned sometimes some very obvious noise comes through out of nowhere which can sometimes be annoying but sometimes i acctually like the effect depending on how the noise acctually sounds. The GUI is also really nice and well done.
I am torn
The instrument itself swings from sweet to brittle which makes this library bittersweet for me. I would love if the samplist used the same sampling method with a more expensive instrument. Worth exploring for some of the notes, but tread with caution.
