The story

For a long time I’ve wanted to sample my Dobro. Especially playing it one octave higher. This makes it quite useful for film music since it sounds less Country’ish. I hope to make a second version one day with better mics, a better room and more samples, so stay tuned for that!

  • A wonderful little guy!

The quality might not be top-notch - there is some white noise, especially in the high velocities and some general inconsistencies, but there are some serious vibes on this one nonetheless. I'll be waiting for an update - but my expectations are high because of this! Don't hesiate to test it yourself and see its potential, you might be impressed!

  • Beautifully played Dobro

This is a beautifully played, beautifully recorded dobro. The release is maybe a little on the long side, but that was easy enough to change to taste within Kontakt. With the possible exception of D4, the samples are pretty even from note to note, and the intonation is pretty good too. It gets a little squirrelly towards the lowest range, but not to the point where it's unplayable. The Sustains are sweet and lovely, reminiscent of bowed glass. This is a great little library in so many ways! Well done!

  • Not really for me

i want to preface this review by saying that as a guitar player i personally find these types of guitar instruments unrealistic and not useful for me. The articulation just starts to sound fake to me even if the samples are recorded really well. With that being said i think this could be useful for layering ontop of a real guitar performance, on its own though i dont find it very convincing. Its definitely a unique sounding instrument and the recording sounds pretty good. I know alot of people are into these kinds of instruments so dont let me stop you from trying it out.
