The story
Lo-Fi Vibes was created after I sampled a Yamaha PS3 which is one of the first portable home keyboards from the 1980s. I then decided to blend these sounds with my Behringer Poly D analogue synth. The result is ‘Lo-Fi Vibes’, a synth with a nostalgic character that is still useful in modern production.
The following voices were captured from the PS3: Organ, Flute, Brass, String, Clarinet, Piano, Harpsichord, Guitar, Vibraphone.
For each voice (where appropriate) you get the following patches:-
– Short note (staccato)
– Long note (sustained / looped)
– FX (with various Lo-Fi effects added)
– Hybrid (blended with analogue synth)
You also get a Bass patch which uses a pitched down PS3 sample combined with the Poly D.
To make the ‘Hybrid’ patches I routed the PS3 samples into the external audio input of the Behringer Poly D. The resulting sounds are a unique combination of vintage digital and modern analogue.
Lo-Fi Vibes captures the essence of vintage home keyboards, then transforms them with modern effects processing. Discover the sound of yesterday, reimagined for today.
