This is not a swanky luthier instrument. I bought it on AliExpress for around $200 NZ! It’s pretty solid, with a nice maple neck.

It has a slightly dirty sound on the lowest notes, but I recorded it clean, with plenty of headroom, through a Sansamp Bass Driver DI, into an Audient EVO 8 interface, at 24 bit 44.1kHz.
The polyurethane strings are disconcerting if you’re used to sliding around on conventional metal strings, but it didn’t take me long to get used to them, and I often use it for working out ideas, especially if I’m away from home.

I used some EQ and compression from Muramasa’s Bassment plugin on this recording, but it takes that well, without losing its character.
